Faiyum is located in central Egypt, serving as the capital of Faiyum Governorate, occupying a part of the ancient city of Crocodilopolis, and is an oasis irrigated by the Nile River. The city was founded around 4000 BC, making it one of the oldest cities in Egypt and in Africa.
The fertile land, well-maintained irrigation canals, abundant sunshine, and suitable temperature have made Faiyum a paradise with a charming landscape. During the blooming period from March to May, the endless orange groves, lemon orchards, mango groves, and pomegranate orchards emit a pleasant fragrance, making it feel like stepping into a fairyland. Faiyum is home to numerous archaeological sites, including Lahoun, Hawara, and Wadi El-Hitan, with Lahoun being the pyramid and village built by Senusret II, the fourth king of the Twelfth Dynasty of the Middle Kingdom, containing a large number of artifacts. Wadi El-Hitan contains early remains of the last known walking whale fossils, which represent a crucial stage in whale evolution.
